retirement-partyThe Chinese culture recently celebrated their Lunar New Year or Chinese New Year. Each year is signified by an animal which is rotated every 12 years. The year 2015 marks the Year of the Ram (or Goat or Sheep depending on which region you live) and folklore states that people born in the year of the goat are generally associated with kindness, sensitivity, politeness and creativity. Each year, the animal rotates to a new zodiac sign eventually repeating itself after twelve.

This is not much different than the cyclical state of the US economy. After all, they say history repeats itself, correct?

A recent article on NBCNews.com asked the question, is 2015 going to be the Year of the Retirement Party? Unfortunately, the Great Recession caused many Baby Boomers to put off retirement due to their scathingly sliced financial portfolios. Retirement which has been right around the corner for many looked bleak when reviewing their retirement savings.

But as the article states, while “53 percent of workers over the age of 60 say they’re putting retirement on hold…it’s actually a post-recession low, down from 66 percent who were putting off retirement in 2010.”

That’s good news for party planners. And even better news for you and me.

As workers of retirement age grow more confident in their savings and look seriously about taking the next step into retirement, it allows mobility within the American workforce for Generation X and Millenials to move on up, which in turn opens new entry-level positions for recent college graduates.

It’s a win-win-win, and that’s why planning enough for retirement is so important. It doesn’t just affect your golden years, it affects everything from the economy, to the workforce, to your grandchildren. The circle of life continues and no matter what year you were born in, make sure that that the year you retire in—and the many more after—is met with celebration.
